Steps Beach - Panorama Video of Shore - located on the North Shore, this beach is far less crowded then most, has gentle surf, and minimal foot traffic - Path/trail head Google Map Nobadeer Beach - lots of dogs come here, and there is a wide coastline for playing frisbee, but don't expect a peaceful trip to the beach! Also, note: no rest rooms or life guards, and this beach is very near the airport so it can be noisy! (map - TripAdvisor) BEACHES WITH LEASHED DOGS ALLOWED: Nantucket Island video

Sanford Farm hiking trail - Nantucket Conservation Foundation Grasslands, small forests, meadows; lots of dogs come here. and there is very little shade Trail head: 115 Madaket Rd, Nantucket, MA 02554 - Miacomet/Hummock Pond Area - from town, drive west on Madaket Rd 1.5 miles, large parking lot is on left and entrance has posts and rail fencing |
Sanford Farm is a very popular walk and well marked with arrows, numbers, and other interpretive markers; many people and dogs go here, and you will may see whole summer camps of kids, baby strollers, and bikes, turtles in season, hawks, osprey, and other wildlife; a beautiful walk over different terrains with great views of the Grasslands, small forests, and meadows. Trail is right off of Madaket Road, and easily accessible by the bike path; the 6 mile Ocean Walk (round-trip) starts from parking towards the southern shoreline of the island ending at the beach, then back. The Northern loop is 1.7 miles and leads south from the parking area back towards the North Head of Hummock Pond; the Barn Walk is 3.1 miles, and it goes halfway to the ocean from the parking lot turning around at the historic barn (a highlight on the 780 acre property, located near the center on a hill that offers excellent views of the southern part of the property) Highlights of the property are the great views of North Head and Hummock Ponds, the sand plain grassland area at Ram Pasture and the spectacular undeveloped beach at the southern boundary. An historic barn is. **beware *there is very little shade, and dogs with tender feet may not like to walk on the sharp gravel on the main path **check water quality and do NOT let your dog in Hummock Pond if there is any dark green or blueish algae, as it may be hazardous |

Trail head Off Polpis Rd, between Waiwinet & Nantucket Town, Siasconset, Nantucket, MA Nantucket Conservation Fund Property |
This is a well-known and very popular walk, where you're likely to run into walkers, bikers, other dogs, cars and people participating in the infamous Nantucket Dog Walk Heading out of town on the Polpis Road, look for Quaise Road about 3.5 miles from town on your left. On your right, directly across from Quaise Road, is the unmarked Alter Rock Road. Drive in here, and park in one of the two parking lots. Travel straight along the main road until you come to a signal beacon (cone-thing that looks like a nuclear warhead from the distance), and take a left to reach Altar Rock, one of the highest points on Nantucket at 108 feet above sea level. On top of Altar Rock you will see 360 degree views of Nantucket, as well as the network of dirt paths, bike trails, and roads that crisscross these "middle moors". Pick one and start out; for example, head toward Gibbs Pond, which you can see if you look SE from the top of Altar Rock *Some dogs, NO Shade, AND BE CAREFUL not to get Lost in the Moors! **Leash Alert: This path is actually a road |

4 Bathing Beach Rd, Nantucket, MA - (TripAdvisor - Yelp)
**closed to dogs April-September |
Jetties Beach - Wonderful Video This is an easily accessible town beach a short car ride or moderate walk from town; gorgeous sunsets and seashells; the beach is hard-packed on the North Shore of the island, and closed to dogs April-September Best walked in the off-seasons, Jetties is a beautiful hard-packed beach on the north shore of the island. Closed to dogs from April to September, it’s a peaceful in-town walk for the rest of the year. To find it, head out of town on North Beach Street and take a right onto Bathing Beach Road. Once at the parking lot at the very end of Bathing Beach Road, you have two choices: head into the small playground area to the right of the jetty, or to the longer beach to the left of the jetty. (They are connected, so it's easy to do both, and it makes for a longer walk.) Jetties Beach has been a place to find coins, shells (this is a great shell beach), and a lot of sea glass. |

Best for short dog walks and shell-finding, this is a south-facing beach with no waves and some good tide pools. To get there; there is usually a lot of detritus on the beach here, including conks and whelks, whelk egg casings, and all manner of shells. To find this beach, head out of town on Cliff Road. You will pass Crooked Lane on your left, then Tupancy Links on your right. At .3 miles after Tupancy, look for Washing Pond Road on your right. Drive down this winding road for .4 miles (to the mail box numbered 34) and you will see a slight right down a dirt road. Take this and you will end up at a sandy parking lot. The beach ends at a retaining wall that at low tide you can skirt to get in some more beach walking. |

One of the most beautiful places on the island, among so many beautiful places, Smith’s Point is a rare charmer that offers both a north-facing (calm) and south-facing (waves) beach to walk on with a nice cut-through so that you can do both in one walk. It is located on the western side of the island. To find this beach walk, take the Madaket Road all the way to the end until you have to take a right. Follow Ames Avenue over a small bridge, then take a left at the end. Follow this to a four-way stop, take a right, then a left at the end and park by a small town hut. The path is behind the hut, and once on the beach turn left to follow the North Shore and look for conch shells (plentiful here); there are great tide pools on this walk too! **Leash Alert: where the dunes on the left start giving way to a flat area between the north and south sides, there may be areas roped off for nesting plovers. |

Tupancy Links - Off-leash area and Trail 165 Cliff Rd, Nantucket, MA - travel along Cliff Rd past Crooked Lane (on left) for 1/4 mile; on right there will be a Conservation Foundation marker and parking lot maintained by the Nantucket Conservation Foundation |
Tupancy Links - Off-leash area and Trail This is the island's unofficial dog park and very popular; an unfenced, off-leash conservation area that was formerly a golf course; plenty of room to run and play and very popular every weekday afternoon around 4pm, when locals bring their dogs (Warning parking lot may be full!) A mile dirt trail loop here leads to a bluff lookout the Nantucket Sound and boats coming into the harbor. *Parking lot may be full at 4pm any weekday **NO Shade, Bring Water! **Leash Alert: no beach access—unless you are a dog! At the end of path out to the bluff, there is a very steep cliff down to the beach. Many dogs HAVE and DO accessed this beach by heading down this precipitous cliff! I always leash my dogs when I get close to this end of the walk Detailed Map and Area Brochure PDF map - TripAdvisor - Yelp |
